Work and Home

How do you balance work and home life?

I’m going to be honest. I don’t balance it. All my heart and soul goes into my home life. I hate my job. I try not to use the word hate, but that is where I’m at right now and I’m trying to be honest. It’s not entirely the job itself. It’s management and coworkers. It’s the true definition of a toxic work environment full of gossipers, cliques, and poor communication.

Logically, it would make sense to look for something else. I’ve weighed the pros and cons. To put it simply, this job is supporting my home life in the best way right now. We’re also not in a financial position for me not to be working (I’m sure not many of us are right now. Times are tough).

Im still on Indeed at least once a week and feel like I’m constantly complaining. I notice work creeping into my home life and I don’t like it. Technology makes that so easy. My strategy right now is learning to develop boundaries. I’ve learned the hard way to keep personal and work life as separate as possible. I do my job. I do it right and I do it to the best of my ability. Then I go home. I try to keep it as simple as that.

I used to want to change the company and all the messed up ways it operates. I’ve never gotten anywhere with that. Instead, my view point has changed. I’m living off that quote that goes something like “if you want to change the world go home and love your family.” So simple and so beautiful. I truly believe some of our small day to day work can end up making a big difference.

To those working in a job they’re not thrilled with, just remember you’re not alone. It’s okay to feel fed up. It’s okay to do your job and not go above and beyond for an employer who has never gone above and beyond for you. Just remember what (or who) you’re doing it for. Be present, take it one day at a time, try to find joy and be the joy. 💙
